Fishing Teams Gear Up for a Shootout off Pompano Beach POMPANO BEACH, FL – South Florida tournament anglers have been anxiously awaiting the return of the 3-leg Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit. That wait is just about over. Leg 1 of the series, the Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Shootout is scheduled for May 11 - 14 with a one-day fishing ‘shootout’ on Saturday, May 13. For years, the PBSC has been one of the most popular series on the tournament trail due in large part to great payouts, great parties and affordable entry fees. Teams returning for the 2017 PBSC can look forward to more of the same! Last year, the Saltwater Shootout made history when it dished out a record setting $99,680 payout to team Off the Wall and a total purse of more than $253,000. 2016 also marked the return of the PBSC weigh-ins to Sands Harbor Resort & Marina for the first time in over 10 years. “We’ve built so many great memories here at the Sands,” said tournament director Jamie Bunn. “It’s a great spot for our teams, family, friends and local residents to come together and celebrate one of the most treasured activities in the city of Pompano. It’s good to be back.” The Shootout weigh-in is open to the public. Scales open at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 13th. Sands Harbor is located at 125 North Riverside Drive, Pompano Beach, 33062. Swing by for an ice cold drink and red-hot action! Those who thoroughly enjoyed the return of the PBSC weigh-ins to Sands Harbor can look forward to another new event there this year. A PBSC Pre-Season Party will be held at the Sands Patio Bar on Wednesday, April 19th from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. Festivities include live music plus 2 for 1 drink specials and complimentary appetizers for pre-registered teams in the Saltwater Shootout. The pre-season party will also be the last opportunity to take advantage of the early rate and save $100 on the registration fee into the Shootout. To top it off there will be a drawing for a FREE entry into the entire summer series! One catch…. you must be present to win! In addition to Off the Wall’s mega payout in last year’s Shootout, team Crescendo also had a nice payday when they won the added value KDW Jackpot and $40,160. Heading into this year’s tournament, the KDW Jackpot has quietly grown to an estimated payout of $23,940! There are a couple of new categories up for grabs in the PBSC series this year as well. Artist David Kustra of Dakus Bones has joined the series as a sponsor of the ‘No Bones About It’ prize category. The team to weigh in the heaviest fish of the season will receive an authentic skeletal mount of their catch courtesy of Dakus Bones. The top small boat of the series will also win $1,000 plus a Simrad NSS EVO3 machine. Bluewater Movements and the Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit are proud to continue their affiliation with The Children’s Tumor Foundation. A portion of the proceeds from the 2017 PBSC series will be donated to CTF. This charitable beneficiary is dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of individuals and families affected by neurofibromatosis, a disease that causes tumors to grow on nerves throughout the body. For more information about the Children’s Tumor Foundation and how you can help, visit: http://www.ctf.org Early entry fee for the Shootout is $375 per boat plus tax through April 19th. After April 19th, the late entry fee is $475 per boat plus tax. The kickoff party for the Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Shootout takes place at the Pompano Beach Civic Center on May 11th from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. Festivities at the kickoff include live music, divine food from Blue Moon Fish Company, complimentary drinks from the Hooter’s hospitality bars and a free fishing clinic for kids. Kids that participate in the clinic also have the opportunity to enjoy a free afternoon of fishing on Saturday, May 13th courtesy of Helen S Drift Fishing. Advance registration is required for the kids fishing clinic, as spaces are limited. The awards ceremony will also be held at the Pompano Civic Center on Sunday, May 14th at 2 p.m. with food hospitality courtesy of Bonefish Mac’s Sports Grille and a special Mother’s Day raffle for the lady anglers. The Pompano Beach Civic Center is located at 1801 NE 6th Street, Pompano Beach, 33060. To register for the Shootout, log on to www.saltwatershootout.com or call 954-725-4010.
